Herne Bay, Auckland

Subtropical garden design

This garden was crafted between two very imposing buildings overlooking a narrow corridor that would become the primary entrance to this family home. The shelter provided by the surrounding structures created a unique micro-climate, enabling us to realise the clients' dream of entering the property through a verdant jungle scene.

A selection of tall mature palms (dysis baronii and phoenix roebelenii) was planted along the length of the entrance path, obscuring views of looming architecture with a soft and vibrant canopy and providing dappled sunlight, while contrasting folia of monstera, cycads philodendron and heliconia fills the lower level of the garden.
